Utep advanced

What a game! Utep had control of there own destiny Saturday afternoon. With a win, they would guarantee themselves a spot in the conference championship this upcoming week.

Utep traveled up north to Denton, Texas to face off with North Texas. The Green Machine didn’t have the urgency the Miners had. North Texas already had a spot in the tournament win or lose. That means, the Miners had to set the pace in this game. By halftime, this was looking a little tough for the Miners, they were down 29-28.

With 16 seconds left in the game. A.J. Lawson tied the game, making one of two free throws. Tie game at 66-66, UTEP ball. Utep marched down the court, with time whining down, Willms with a last second throw down to make it 68-66. North Texas dribbled the ball to half court and let a last second shot, but fell short. Utep did enough and held on the much needed win.

Senior Omega Harris had a team high 18 points, adding 7 rebounds.

Utep will now move on and play UTSA on Wednesday March 7th at 630pm in the first round of the Conference USA tournament. Utep dropped both regular season games to San Antonio this season. Look for Kobe Mcghee, a San Antonio native and now current El Paso Miner to have a huge game.
